    Summer Q&A with Debbie Mason

What is your ideal summer weather?
Debbie: 74 and sunny with a light breeze.

What's on your playlist this summer?
Debbie: Pink’s “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken”, Carrie Underwood’s “The Champion”, Carrie Underwood’s “Softly and Tenderly”, Jennifer Lopez’s “El Anillo”, Pink’s “What About Us?”, Enrique Iglesias’s “Subeme La Radio Remix”, Brett Young’s “In Case You Didn’t Know”, Niall Horan’s “Slow Hands”, DNCE “Cake by the Ocean”, Maroon 5 “Sugar”.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
    Debbie: Salted caramel peanut butter.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?
Debbie: A very long time ago. When I was eight, my mom, sister and I moved in with my grandparents. My grandfather was an author, and every day after school I’d curl up on a chair in his office to watch him type up his stories on his typewriter while he smoked his pipe. His last book, Coplalook: Chief Trader of the Hudson Bay Company, was published when he was in his 80s, and I always said I wanted to be just like him.

Out of all of your books, what book makes the best beach/pool side read?
Debbie: Of course I’m a little biased, but I think any of my summer titles would make a great beach or poolside read. They’ve all got a lot of heart, a little heat, mystery, and humor, and they’re set in the perfect summertime location of Harmony Harbor. But if I have to choose just one, I’ll go with my upcoming release, SANDPIPER SHORE. Not only do I have a soft spot for Logan and Jenna, their story was inspired by my favorite fairytale, Cinderella, and the movie The Wedding Planner. And then there’s Pippa, the rescued sandpiper.

    Summer Q&A with Debbie Mason

    Favorite summer drink?
Debbie: It used to be a mojito with a sprig of basil instead of mint. But ever since I visited New Orleans with my daughter it’s been a Pimm’s Cup. (Pour 1 part Pimms in a tall glass with crushed ice, add 2 parts 7 up, ginger ale or carbonated lemonade, then toss in some cucumber slices, orange slices, lemon slices, sliced strawberry and a sprig of mint. Enjoy!)

    Ideal summer vacation?
Debbie: A log cabin on a lake with the rest of the family in cabins close by.

    Go-to summer clothing item?
    Debbie: Maxi sundress.

If you were stuck on an island, what 3 items would you have to have?
Debbie: I’d put my hubby on the top of my list, but I don’t think he qualifies as an item.  So instead I’d bring a big knife, a big box of waterproof matches, and a really, really big box of books.

What character in your new novel would you like to hang out with this summer and why?
Debbie: I was going to say Logan Gallagher because not only is he a great guy and incredibly hot, he’s a secret service agent. But I’m married and he’s kind of taken, not to mention he’s too young for me. So I’ll go with wedding planner Jenna Bell.

Jenna might be younger than me, but I think we’d be great friends. We have quite a bit in common. We love books, a good Cinderella story, and we believe in soulmates and happily-ever-afters—well, Jenna believed in them until her fiancé and her stepmother . . . Oops, I have to stop there. No spoilers allowed.

Debbie Mason Recommends Five Summer Reads
This summer, I’ll most likely be turning the pages of my favorite reads in a car and on a plane. We have week-long 100th anniversary celebrations to attend in our hometown, a family wedding, a working vacation in Colorado, and then some cottage time at Black Bay with our very large, extended family. When we’re at Black Bay, I’m hoping to sneak off with a book to my aunt and uncle’s hammock or hide away in one of the back bedrooms for a while. Here are some of the books that I’ll be taking with me on my travels.
Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn: I love a good psychological suspense, and from the blurb, this one sounds great—a little like my favorite Hitchcock movie, Rear Window, starring Grace Kelly and James Stewart.
Lovers at Seaside by Addison Cole: For an emotional and entertaining read, I can always depend on Addison to deliver.
The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand: It wouldn’t be summer without a visit to Nantucket with the queen of the beach read. (June 19)
Rainy Day Friends by Jill Shalvis: I know with Jill I’m guaranteed a funny, romantic read. (June 19)
The Cottages on Silver Beach by RaeAnne Thayne: Haven Point is one of my favorite places to visit for a heart-warming, feel-good read. (June 19)
And because I can’t stop at just five, here are a few of the books on July and August’s must-read list.
